Okay, if you’ve been following along: you’ve seen my total obsession with NOLA! This past week we celebrated my boyfriends birthday in New Orleans & holy hell was it a blast. (I think we had too much fun…from what I can remember.) This coming weekend is Mardi Gras & if you’re there, I wanted to give you a list of some of my fave places to go….but let’s get to lookin’ because there are lots of pictures!

The highlight of the trip for me was the live jazz burlesque show at The Sonesta Hotel! Trixie Minx was the headliner burlesque dancer but there were multiple burlesque girls that would dance (& maybe strip a little) while an incredible jazz band would play and sing. The space was gorgeous, not to mention we had a table right in the front, basically touching the stage. It truly felt like an authentic New Orleans Jazz experience. You can reserve your seat for $20 a person, so just get there early & hope for standing room. It was the BEST $20 I spent the whole trip. Not to mention the Stevie Wonder Irish coffee I drank. (The orange peel in it was soooo DELISH!) Below, you can find a link to a little snippet of the band playing.

Click here for some unreal live jazz music!

What can I say…..Cafe Du Monde changed my life. This is something touristy we HAD to do. If you don’t know, Cafe Du Monde is huge cafe in the French Quarter that sells ONLY coffee, milk, & their famous powdered sugar beignets! For $5, you can get 3 beignets & a cafe au lait! Unreal. We enjoyed boiled shrimp from the outdoor French Market & our Cafe Du Monde goodies by the river.

Who knew a rainy day would turn into such a fun one! It rained our first day their and we took it upon ourselves to adventure as much as we could! We first stopped at a gorgeous Masquerade shop, almost forcing me to leave with this gorgeous creation! Then, we stopped at a recommended local Dive Bar, Erin Rose. This was by far my fave dive bar on Bourbon. They are known for their Frozen Irish Coffee’s, & let me tell you, there was more then one that I consumed that day. We actually loved that bar so much, we went back twice! The windows were open & we enjoyed their happy hour drink special as we watched the rain fall. DON’T FORGET TO TRY OUT THEIR PO’BOYS!

We then stopped at one of my favorite restaurants ever in NOLA, New Orleans Creole Cookery! OMG, this is a wonderful spot not only because of the food, but the HAPPY HOUR! From 3-6pm everyday, you can get .50 cent raw oysters & $1 Char Grilled oysters! Holy shit, if you’ve never tried Char Grilled(SEEN ABOVE), they’re UNREAL. They have parmesan cheese, romano cheese, & garlic— & then are toasted to perfection! Served with a side of toasted sour dough bread—we were in total seafood HEAVEN! Not to mention, they have a gorgeous outdoor courtyard with an outdoor bar! (Special thanks to the server who gave us our drinks for free because of the birthday boy!)

Cigars on the Pat O’briens patio was the ultimate party. Don’t forget to grab one of their famous Hurricanes….you may only need one for the rest of the night! (; AND if it’s colder, they have a heated patio! Everyone says its the BEST hurricane on the strip, & they are so so right!

The rest of our day’s we enjoyed DELICIOUS Bloody Mary’s from Stanleys in the french quarter, listened to live music on the street with a drink in hand, & enjoyed whatever was thrown at us.

& to finish it off, our cute AIR B&B that was only a 15 minute uber to bourbon street. If y’all are traveling to NOLA, I highly suggest you AIR B&B it up! Our gracious host left us a King Cake & bottles of champs to celebrate. And how gorgeous is the back patio!?

This trip will never be forgotten. It is safe to say that we already looked up plane tickets to go back ASAP! Hope this guide gets your travel bug goin’ & you’re ready for the shenanigans that take place in NOLA. The culture & architecture makes you feel right at home, as the faint noise of a saxophone plays on the corner of every cobble stone street. HAPPY MARDI GRAS!
